Teaching What matters

When I found this book on my list of items to read for a graduate course, I did not believe the reviews that stated a 70 year old book could still provide enlightenment on todays' issues. Coming into the education field with a background in business, I found myself not only laughing throughout parts of the book but agreeing with the author. This book brought education and business together for me.

The author is correct, today we spend too much time focusing on what worked yesterday and not wanting to change. As a result, we make excuses on why what was still could be the answer. We are all realizing that yesterday's education is no longer effective for tomorrow's students. This book is one every stakeholder should read before voting on the latest "get fixed-quick" plans for education are initiated. While this book does not offer any suggestions on how to fix the system, it does offer an interesting viewpoint on how everything went so wrong. The question thus becomes who can come up with an answer to the questions this book poses.

This book is well written from beginning to end. This should be read by everyone young and old to understand what took place during World War II, in eastern Europe. The book tells Halina's story from her childhood to her older years. The atrocities committed by the Nazis are disturbing to read, but need to be known.The story goes into detail how Halina helped and saved as many Jewish people as she possibly could. Many pictures are also included in the book of Halina and of the war era.

Another good book about the Nazi persecution in Poland during WWII. This book follows the life of Halina Ostik, a survivor. Mrs. Ostik was not a Jew, but she supported the Jews in the ghetto in Warsaw during WWII and later in Argentina and then back in Poland in her last years as an employee of Friends of Israel. The book is a bit choppy at times (jumping around from topic to topic), but it is still well worth reading the first person account quotes of someone who lived through those most difficult times. I also recommend (even more so) the book "Zvi" by this same author. It is a book that you won't be able to put down.

McQuaid did a very good job telling Halina's story! It's always difficult to read about the horrors of the Holocaust, but we need to constantly remind ourselves of what these people went through. I was not aware of all that Poland endured and this was quite an eye-opener....Halina's was surely a hero and her God and her faith gave her the courage to do what she did.

I have used the charts and maps in this book for over 20 years of Bible teaching. It is superb. Each chart is clear, easily reproducible (which is allowed) and good for personal or class instruction.

Great resource - back in print!

I received this yesterday and already used it for my Bible study class tonight. I purchased the "new" version - well worth it. It is a reprint of the original. This reprint IS of great quality. The typeface is crisp, and even better, the charts make sense and are well-researched, doctrinally sound, and helpful. For tonight's overview, we were able to see the sequence of Paul's epistles within his life span, and documented with the related cross-reference(s).

I wish I'd had this resource for the last three years (I am a relatively new inductive Bible study teacher), but I know I'll be using it for both my study and to illustrate for my classes in years to come.

I was delighted with the quality and thrilled to be able to get what had been a out-of-print item. These charts form the foundation of any inductive Bible study effort. I strongly support the use of these as an initial effort to learn to make charts based on the same concepts.
