Clear and Complete

This book clarifies the problem between language and music. The problem is that we have historically confused them. The similarities between language and music have led us to think that there is a deeper relation. Anyhow, Davies examines, I would say exhaustively, the idea that music has meaning in any sense. Maybe against Nicholas Cook's "The Language of Music" and more up to date than Leonard B. Meyer's "Emotion and Meaning in Music", this book is a must for anyone who wnats to clear up the problems (even the philosophical ones) about music.

LOVE CONROY and THIS BOOK!!!!!

Pat Conroy was an American treasure. I'm rereading all of his books, some for the third or fourth time. There is always something new to discover in the rereading, a nuance or an alliterative description to enjoy once again. His insights into the abusive family are heartbreakingly spot on. Pat Conroy was and is my favorite American author. The Great Santini is an insightful book about an abusive father who is larger than life, while it starts out as a condemnation I believe that it ends as a love song to his father. For further insight into Mr. Conroy's relationship with his father as an adult I recommend The Death of Santini.

The tale of an Air Force "light" Colonel bully and the misery he inflicts upon his beloved family

Almost from the beginning of the first chapter, you gotta' know where this story is headed. But that doesn't make you want to keep reading and hoping that some family member will break the nasty, bullying, Air Force Dad's control over his family of five, and let them live in peace. The story is the continuing saga of the unrelenting intimidation of father upon son, daughter and wife that moves this book from beginning to end. The characters are so well presented by Conroy and his words made me run for my dictionary on many occasions. This is the second book of his that I have read, and I look forward to reading more.

A Timeless Story of Courage, Faith and Love

Confession: Pat Conroy is one of my favorite writers. (No relation, unfortunately.) This is the love-hate story of a father and a son and is based on Pat's own troubled relationship with his father, Donald Conroy. The father is an abusive and controlling Marine Corps aviator; the son is growing up, growing stronger and growing more independent as he tries to escape his father's domination. The only reason I'm not giving it four stars (instead of five) is the dialogue between the siblings, especially almost everything said by Mary Anne, seems forced and contrived. Still, the Pat Conroy rhythm is there: The first 80 percent of the book is character development that is so fine-tuned you live and breathe with them and then whamo! The plot bursts out and takes over. Ready! Set! Action! This coming-of-age story about courage, faith and love is timeless. Plus, it's just a really good read.

Perfect for logic games practice

This was exactly what I was looking for! I needed more practice focused solely on the logic games section, to improve my speed and accuracy working through them. This was perfect for that.

I wouldn't recommend using this book alone - it has breakdowns of the games after you do them to check your answers, but you need to learn the techniques to do the games first. I used the Powerscore LSAT Logic Games Bible to learn the techniques before I used this book for more practice. The game techniques used in this book and that one are similar enough that I could use the answer breakdowns in this book, and different enough that I learned some new tricks from this book.

Overall, I highly recommend using this book to hone your skills and increase your speed on the logic games section. I saw significant improvement in my logic games score on the practice tests I was taking as I used this book to study.

and I'm amazed at how he solved the game

Nathan has a remarkable ability to simply the LSAT. Concerning his logic games book, I do each game first on my own then compare my method to his. I'm on game # 6 now, and I'm amazed at how he solved the game. He figured out all of the various permutations before he got to the questions. I must admit that I never even considered approaching the game from this angle. I read on some message board that someone thought Nathan had too many five-star-reviews to be true. However, I bet that whoever said that hasn't read any of his books. I don't give fake reviews. If anything I might have a reason to biased against him, as he is an atheist, and I am a Christian. Nevertheless, this book so far has been great, and I look forward to finishing it. I also really like his logical reasoning book "Disrespecting the LSAT"

Start here, but don't finish here.

I bought this book towards the end of my LSAT prep, mostly because I had been freeloading off of the author's podcast, found his attitude helpful, and wanted to support him. The strategies were sensible, the writing is entertaining and clear, and all the traditional game types are covered. In retrospect, I would have made my first games guide.

I'd push back on the notion that this teaches you *everything* you need to know to do well on the games, however, for two reasons: the examples in this book just aren't that hard, and the book doesn't acknowledge the non-traditional games that have been increasingly common in recent tests. I could imagine this taking someone from a -13 to a -4 on games, but to really master them you're going to need to practice the curvebreakers and get comfortable with unexpected game types.

A Book for the Curious

My worst fear in buying books like these is that I waste my money on information I already know or it tells me information that can easily be found within 5 minutes on Google. Luckily, this book was not like that.

If you're a reluctant or aspiring mistress who wants an informed guide to start you on the right path, or if you're someone who's just curious and wants to do something different with your partner; this book is for you. It effectively talks about what to expect as a sexually empowered female and gives you an intelligent re-approach to common misconceptions, fears, challenges, and tribulations One might face. It's not just "what" to expect as a dominant female, it's also the authors explanation of "why", which makes me feel like this book an especially insightful and productive read.

CONS:
-Not for an experienced Mistress. This is literally Female Domination 101. So unless you want to get back to basics, this book is not for you.

-I find this book very vague when it comes to ideas. I'm only on page 80, but I already wish there were more specific, naughty techniques to be inspired by. It's possible the author wanted to be vague because it gives the reader more freedom to be inspired by themselves, but it would still be nice to have some realistic ideas to bounce around.

Not enough emphasis on reality

I found this book to be interesting, but ultimately disappointing, however, my disappointment is not the book's fault. We were looking for a way to learn how to enhance our already in place female led relationship. This book is primarily for beginners, whereas we have been at it for decades, and the book also places much emphasis on "games." We don't play games in our house, our FLR is very real, we are just at a loss on how to make it grow, and we hoped this book would help with that. It did not. On the other hand, if you just want to play around with fem domme or FLR, then this book could work well for you.

The Mistress Manual offers several scenarios that would help those who just want to have some fun or even relax, but there is little information for the experienced FLR couple,nor is there any real information for people who want to adopt the female led philosophy. It also is useful for a woman who wants to learn how to dominate men for profit or fun. And that is probably the book's best angle, because trying to function as a book for the experienced, the novice, and the curious, Mistress Lorelei has lost sight of a clear focus as to what the book should actually offer.

I would recommend this book to those who are either curious or to a woman who wants to learn what it would take to control her man, at least on a fun level. As for a person seeking a lifestyle enhancement or change, this is not the book I would recommend. I would have given this book two stars, but I did like it, it just didn't offer me the information that we wanted as a couple.

Good for beginners

Not much new stuff for someone familiar with BDSM, great for curious beginners or wives who discover their husband already has a taste for weird. The best stuff is the categorizing of different kinds of mistress models: school teacher, nursemaid, etc. which can be a great tool for style, but more importantly in my mind, helping your partner figure out what flavor of bitch he wants you to be. I really wish they'd expand more on what different types of domination suit you or clues to know what your partner wants you to be if he can't express it himself (& many submissive's can't or won't, since the whole point is that you tell him not vice versa)

My son's new favorite book

This is definitely my son's new favorite book. I just received this a few days ago, and I can not tell you how many times he has had me read it to him and how many times he has looked at it on his own. The book has super cute illustrations and has animals that are not always seen in zoo books such as armadillos and hyenas. Each page has so much for him to look at. In each animal's cage, there are little toys to identify. Each cage is a different color so it helps to teach colors. On each page is balloon, and he has fun finding where it is in the sky in each picture. A charming little book that would be great for any small child. It is a good size for small hands, and the pages are nice and sturdy. They are slick, so sticky fingerprints can be easily removed with wet wipes. I am pleased that I purchased this book because it gives him so much pleasure.

We love this classic!

We read this classic every night before bed! It's one of the few books we have that has hardly any words, and I love it! I think it helps my two year old kind of develop his own little imaginative story.

He loves pointing out the little mouse with the banana, and the red balloon.

I remember reading this book when I was little, and I'm so glad my son gets to do the same! Kind of nostalgic.

I have a one year old and a three year old both enjoy this book. We're doing a totschool curriculum which includes this book. The book includes many safari animals and so is perfect for a two week totschool program for little kids. The book itself is well made and cannot easily be ripped or torn as he pages are hard. It's also small so it's perfect for little hand or to take on the go in your diaper bag.

About the Author
Andr�s Solimano is founder and Chairman of the International Center for Globalization and Development. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr Solimano was a Regional Advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Country Director at the World Bank and Executive Director at the Inter-American Development Bank. He was also Director of the project on International Mobility of Talent with the United Nations University-World Institute of Economic Research and served as Executive Director for Chile at the Board of the Inter-American Development Bank. Dr Solimano has written extensively on international migration, talent mobility, growth, inequality, political economy, macroeconomics and international development.

About the Author
Joel Feinberg (Professor Emeritus, late of University of Arizona) was widely recognized as one of America's leading political and social philosophers. Acclaimed both for his ground-breaking scholarship and his exemplary teaching skills, Feinberg published widely on topics such as individual rights, legal theory, capital punishment, the treatment of the mentally ill, civil disobedience, and environmental ethics. Before joining the University of Arizona faculty, he taught at Brown, Princeton, and Rockefeller universities. Feinberg was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1987-88 to work in Japan and served as chairman of the National Board of Officers in the American Philosophical Association in the mid-1980s. Some of the royalties from Reason and Responsibility have been used to establish the Regents Professor Joel Feinberg Dissertation Fellowship in Philosophy at the University of Arizona.

Russ Shafer-Landau received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and currently teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he focuses on ethical theory and philosophy of the law. He is the author of THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ETHICS; MORAL REALISM; A DEFENCE; AND WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GOOD AND EVIL? He also serves as series editor for Oxford Studies in Metaethics.

it's really good. It's not dry

For a textbook, it's really good. It's not dry. It is made of short essays and it does not go into too many details. It just gives the information. Weirdest textbook I have every read.

Good textbook for an Introduction to Philosophy

The rental item itself was noticeably used on the outside and somewhat on the inside as well. The textbook itself had some interesting readings and was helpful in learning about the basics of philosophy.

MY FAVORITE BOOK OF 2016----LOTS OF ABSTRACT NEAT ARGUMENTS THAT LEAVE THE SIMPLE AND MUNDANE SUDDENLY SEEMING ABSTRACT, COMPLEX AND ESCAPING ANY SIMPLE APPLICATION OF "PASSIVE" LOGIC THAT SEEMED SO EASY TO PRACTICE BEFORE YOU READING THE FIRST ENCOUNTER.....:) IT'S A MASTERPIECE!!!
