Chapter 3 comprises pictures and recollections from Maharishi’s teachings at the Academy. Chapter 4 touches upon the great saint Sri Tat Wale Baba who lived in a cave in the jungle near the Academy and who was Maharishi’s friend. Chapter 5 embraces an experiene with the great saint Sri Anandamayi Ma, who spoke of Maharishi very warmly when the author went to see her and receive her darshan when she traveled to two of her ashrams—one in Dehradun (sometimes called Dehra Dun), and the other, on the road to the hill station, Mussoorie, a�long taxi ride from Rishikesh. In Chapter 6, the author�shares pictures and stories from his time at the Academy and is traveling to South�India after the teacher training course had been completed. This included a trip to Bangalore with Maharishi and then a further journey to Alleppey, Trivandrum, Quilon, Kanyakumari, Rameswaram, and Madurai with Brahmachari Sattyanand, Geoffrey Baker and Fred den Ouden — traveling at Maharishi’s behest to accompany Sri Sattyanand to visit the places Maharishi did when he first left Uttarkashi in the Himalayas. Chapter 7 is a post-script and epilogue with some photos from times just subsequent.�

A Journey Worth Taking

Nearly half a century ago, Jonathan Miller was one of 177 people from various parts of the world who made the journey to Rishikesh, a venerable pilgrimage town in the foothills of the Himalayas, to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and train to be teachers of Transcendental Meditation. This delightful book, illustrated with dozens of Miller's own photographs, captures the essence of the experience, from the environment - the Ganges flowing below the hilltop ashram and the monkeys in the trees - to the daily routine of the course, comprising long hours of meditation, study of the science of consciousness, and practical principles and methods of teaching - to Maharishi himself, who held three meetings a day and was a fountain of wisdom and joyfulness. As I was a member of that course, I can vouch for the absolute authenticity of every aspect of this book.
Additional treats are photos and anecdotes of two great saints, "friends" of Maharishi, Tat Wale Baba and Anandamayi Ma, and stories and photos of a trip the author took to South India after the conclusion of the course, retracing steps that Maharishi took in the 1950s as he was beginning his worldwide movement. Visiting ancient temples (wearing Indian dress gave him and his companions access that other Westerners were denied), eating fiery food, sleeping on bamboo mats, traveling by bullock cart, Jon Miller experienced an India that only a few intrepid travelers have known. His fine book brings to life the diverse cultures of north and south, and the sounds and sights of India, as well as the pleasure and privilege of studying with a great master teacher.

Weight Loss on Steroids - Lose a Belief, Lose Weight!

Steroids? I'm not kidding you, weight loss on steroids is the only way I can describe my recent review of the book, Theta Healing Rhythm For Finding Your Perfect Weight by Vianna Stibal.

I get it!

It could be because I've spent the last four years learning to look at life through a whole new lens.

I've tossed out my age-old belief system that was a disservice to me, not to mention to my poor children also.
My somewhat "rotund" body has shed weight that now has me down to a manageable size where I look and feel like I'm in my pre-childbearing state, albeit with a few hefty stretch marks!

Don't stop reading now. You have to hear how Vianna has managed to take a simple spiritual approach to the emotional weight we all carry around with us.

We can't seem to shed the weight no matter what and we always give up.

The funny thing is, we never ever thank our Creator for giving us our Divine physical being, and we never think of praying for guidance to release the watershed of toxic thoughts and actions we've created within ourselves.
I just get a sense that Theta Healing Rhythm will change all that.

We know all the excuses for why we're overweight. Here are a few that I've taken the liberty to over-exaggerate from Vianna's original, beautiful examples in the book:

1. I'm overweight because my family is overweight.
2. I'm safe and protected, hiding my emotions (anger, jealousy, greed, etc.) behind my weight.
3. It's my genetics; those darn ancestors passing on the fat gene to me!
4. Pump that husband/wife up with food and they won't cheat on me!

Sound familiar?

Vianna's approach to releasing resentment mirrors many other belief system workshops that I've spent ions of money on since the beginning of time - well, not really, but it sure feels like it.

Even juicier in this book is her approach to blessing our body and our food, releasing layers (emotional and physical pollutants), and my favorite, exercises without exercising! It doesn't get any better than that.
Even though I love her process of exercises without exercising, I have to say that my favorite part of this book is her practice that releases sadness from deep within.

I can't even describe this exercise except to say that there were a lot of heavy-duty moans and groans coming from my house for a few hours. I'm sure my neighbor wasn't exactly happy with the scary sounds, but it worked very well for me, thank you!

I really wish I would've discovered Vianna's other books before reading this one.
Her earlier works, Advanced ThetaHealing, On the Wings of Prayer, TheTaHealing: Introducing an Extraordinary Energy-Healing Modality, ThetaHealing Diseases and Disorders would have given me a better insight into what to expect with this current Theta Healing research.

But, then again, the Divine never sends me what I need until I'm ready for it.

Nevertheless, it's a book for weight loss on steroids! I'm sticking to my description and I'm pumping up on exercising without exercising!

Excellent, Integrated Approach to Releasing Weight

Thetahealing Rhythm For Finding Your Perfect Weight by Vianna Stibal is an incredible book. It isn't for everybody, but if you have experience, or are interested in energy healing, this will be right up your alley. Being unfamiliar with the author's previous books, I was initially confused about what thetahealing entails. However, she cleared up my confusion pretty quickly. The integrated mind, body, spirit approach she offers is what sets this program apart from so many others. Her introduction contains the divine revelation "Anyone who tells you that you can release weight without exercise is trying to sell you something. You have to exercise!" The latter sections of the book deal with exercise and nutrition. But like all good teachers she starts by taking a deep look at the foundation of the issue. Beliefs. Those of us who have successfully lost extreme amounts of weight know, that the outward changes only mirror the effect of the inward changes. And those beliefs must change drastically. Vianna Stibal covers many of the limiting, dangerous beliefs in detail. That section alone makes this book a 5 star read. This is a fantastic book. The author sums it up best by saying, "This program is for those people who are intuitive;who realize that there is no separation between mind, body, and soul." Many of the ideas offered, are concepts I wish I'd have been exposed to years ago. There are empowering points she makes, that I've been trying to teach to my own personal training clients. The sections on running and exercising "without exercising" are brilliant. This book is a powerful tool, and is a definite keeper in my fitness library.

Quality Control, Sixth Edition, begins with an introductory chapter about quality responsibility and two chapters that describe total quality management. These chapters are followed by chapters on fundamentals of statistics, control charts for variables, additional SPC techniques for variables, fundamentals of probability, and control charts for attributes. A subsequent group of chapters describes acceptance sampling and reliability.

This Sixth Edition includes a complete updating of all material. It also includes a new CDROM of data files that uses EXCEL.

Best in Field (Pun Intended)

If you only buy one book on the application of statistics and probability to the creation of control charts (SPC) and acceptance sampling, this is it. Dale wrote the original first text on SPC back when the only literature on the subject was found in periodicals and research papers. It took him over 3000 manhours to write this concise text and it's bank of clear, understandable problems. The text earned him the title of full Professor at Southern Illinois University and a national reputation as it was used by Ford Motor Company and others for internal training. After teaching from it for almost 20 years I can assure you there is no better book on the subject in the field. (And, yes, I know Dale personally, but have had virtually no contact with him since his retirement many years ago).

Quality on Quality

This is a professional's book! It covers quality control at the level that you need -- whether a novice in the field or an experienced professional. It does an excellent job of interrelating all of the aspects of quality control, while letting you focus on the topic at hand; you never feel that you are "out of place" in the process. This book is so good that we are going to use it as the reference/source for our training programs that cover not only quality control but quality control's relationship with other aspects of operations management and program management. I have even incorporated it into an undergraduate course I teach on quality management and productivity. There's something in it for every technical professional in the workplace today.

About the Author
Roy Bates first became captivated by Chinese dragons when working in the country in the late 1970s, and has since written numerous articles on the dragon, the Forbidden City, and other aspects of Chinese culture and history.

Excellent book on Dragons

For many centuries that the dragon has been the symbol of China, and has been considered as immortal and omnipresent ever since ancient times. It has belonged to the people, and it has also been the symbol of monarchy and supreme power. The dragon was a mythical beast. It was a concept. But most Chinese people, indeed most Asian people, were convinced that it existed. There are many occasions when there were claims that it had been seen, even as recently as 1920. No other creature in the world could have produced such a far-reaching influence on the mind of man.
Unlike the European dragon, it was considered a beneficent beast, until the Buddhists introduced the concept of evil dragons. Yet the basic belief was always that it had noble spiritual qualities that were unconquerable.
This book has been written by an author who has lived for many years in China researching into its history. It is in an easy-to-read style and is dedicated to the dragon and its many offshoots and variations. The pictures are delightful. It gives details of what a dragon was, where it was used, and what it was called. The reader will become more acquainted with the dragon, and will gain a greater understanding of this magnificent beast. It will interest and please the serious student and the enthusiastic Chinaphile alike.
It would make a perfect Christmas present.

An excellent source and a labour of love

This book, though short, provides a remarkably detailed survey of the Chinese dragon as represented in the art of his native land. Beginning with an overview of early dragon representations and possible sources of inspiration, Mr. Bates' book goes to considerable effort to describe the many variant images and beliefs that may be found regarding dragons throughout China. I have a hard time finding the kind of information brought together here - dragons in architecture, dragons as represented on dragon robes, the beings and images popularly represented as sons of the dragon - anywhere other than highly specialized scholarly tomes. Finding as much as Mr. Bates has put forth in Chinese Dragons in such an accessible volume is a remarkably pleasant surprise. The twenty-four colour plates are just about worth the price of admission all by themselves. The author clearly knows and loves his subject.
